Welcome to the virtual home of the “Sugar Hill” Manhattan Pearls Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. On behalf of the dedicated officers and members, it is an honor and a pleasure as President and Organizer of the “Sugar Hill” Manhattan Pearls chapter to welcome you to our website.
Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. (TLOD) is a service organization that was chartered in the state of Texas on September 8, 1964 by eight visionaries. For 59 years, TLOD has been serving “Youth and Adults” through impactful community based programs and projects. As the Covid-19 crisis has significantly impacted communities across the United States, it has disparately harmed low income households. Covid-19 has left systemic inequalities in employment, wage-earning, health, and well-being have been a strain for our communities facing poverty or near poverty conditions. Seeing a need, and since service is the unifying mission of the organization; the idea to charter a chapter in Harlem was born to expand its national footprint and brand into the “Sugar Hill” section of Harlem, NY, while aiming to serve and uplift those in need.
The “Sugar Hill'' Manhattan Pearls Chapter was chartered on June 25, 2022 with the induction of 26 ladies who answered the call of Organizer, Lady Brenda L. Jones, to serve in the areas of Manhattan, Bronx, and Westchester county. The mission, to eradicate poverty on all levels be it food insecure homes with our Weekend Backpack program and attacking food deserts , literacy by eliminating the 30 million word gap by partnering with Harlem Hospital and the donation of a Little Free Library along with books, destigmatizing period poverty with the donation of “Little Lady Kits”.
The “Sugar Hill” Manhattan Pearls chapter is positioned to impact the communities that we serve by promoting the five programmatic thrusts of the organization; Status of Women, Senior Citizens, Community Beautification, Community Partnerships, and Top Teens of America-the organization’s signature program. Additionally, TLOD extends robust advocacy through its partnerships with other philanthropic endeavors sponsored by the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA), the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW).
